Cardamom derives from a tree that belongs to the ginger family. Cardamom pods are spindle shared which contains a few seeds inside of them. The colour and size of these pods may differ with the plant.
Cardamom has a strong aroma and adds a unique flavour to food, savoury or sweet. It is a much-used spice in southern Asian dishes. Cardamom comes as whole pods, seeds or the grounded form.
In Sri Lanka, it is cultivated in uphill country regions such as Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and in other districts such as Ratnapura and Galle.
